Tosato, Angelo

Angelo Tosato,

(Venice, 1938 – Rome, 1999) was a “biblista”, a biblical scholar. Full Professor at the John Paul II Institute for Studies on Marriage and Family in Rome and at the Pontifical Biblical Institute, he taught courses on various biblical topics and published widely. His research focused particularly on the history of ancient Judaic and early Christian institutions: the institutions of the family, the political institutions and the economic institutions. His dissertation on marriage in the Bible (Il matrimonio israelitico. Una teoria generale, published in 1982 in Analecta Biblica, 100, re-published after his untimely death in 2001, again as Analecta Biblica 100) is still considered an essential reading on the topic.
